The Karate Kid recruited me. Watching Mr. Miyagi teach Daniel-son the art of bonsai made me want to try it. A few years later, having killed all but two of my trees, I gave up. In 2012, one of my children took an interest in bonsai after seeing trees on display at the county fair, and we got into it together. I'm doing a bit better this time.
I am both a bonsaiist and a ceramicist, as well as a budding YouTube content creator. Not all of my trees are in pots that I made, and not all of the trees in pots that I made are mine, but I make both pots and bonsai trees, and I often share those processes on my new YouTube channel, called, of course, Drunk Bonsai.
No matter where I go or what I am doing, if I see something interesting, I like to ponder how that would look as a pot and/or as a bonsai tree. This group of trees growing wild in the ruins of an Irish farm were the inspiration for one of my show pieces.
